Essential Soft Skills: Character Education Career Awareness Exploration Activity
Teach your students the importance of developing soft skills early on for long-term success. This lesson plan highlights the correlation between developing soft skills in school and achieving success in their communities and future careers. In this activity, students are asked to imagine themselves as successful individuals in their careers 20 years into the future. They are instructed to post a picture on Instacam and consider what characteristics their friends would see in them that made them successful.
The activity comes in two versions: one with pre-filled characteristic boxes that can be customized for specific school needs, and another with a word bank for students to write in their own characteristics. To complete the activity, students must circle at least six characteristics in red that describe their own strengths, and then trade papers with a neighbor to circle at least six characteristics in blue that they believe describe their classmate, regardless of whether they have already been listed in the boxes or not.
